Heriot-Watt University’s history dates back to 1821 and it is the UK’s eight oldest educational institution. It is a modern, dynamic and international university with a reputation for world-class teaching and practical, leading-edge research. Heriot-Watt is one of the top UK universities for business and industry. It has three campuses in Scotland, one in Dubai and one in Malaysia.
The rapidly increasing competition within the education sector required a new, fresh looking campaign to target new prospective students for the University’s undergraduate courses. A brand new campaign was developed to determine the visual (and verbal) appearance of all Undergraduate materials of the University for a three year period.
The design won the “Best Design” award at the British National UPMG Print and Design Competition.
Heriot-Watt University seeks to reenforce academic learning with real time practical study. This view is captured in the design by use of the subject matter looking through an object which is symbolic of the sciences in an effort to capture depth of knowledge. The use of washed colours on this device represents the various disciplines; the monochromatic treatment of the individual is symbolic of the undergraduate market; and the stark white background isolates the subject matter and completes the trio of printed components forming a dynamic, layered contemporary solution.
